3 Easy Outdoor Catholic Halloween Decorations for Hallowtide
Instead of making our homes scary, let’s make them holy! Here is a list of simple, inexpensive, and fun outdoor DIYs to get your yard or patio ready for All Hallow’s Eve!
Today, I will share ideas for how to make:

- DIY wooden lawn signs

Saint Scarecrows
Turn any scarecrow into a Saint scarecrow! Scroll down to see Pope St. John Paul II and St. Mother Theresa of Calcutta. Sprinkle some Holy Water on these and on your lawn, and keep those bad spirits away!
Supplies
- scarecrow (store bought or homemade)
- your kids’ old All Saints Day costumes
- scraps of fabric
- solid colored t-shirts
Instructions
- Obtain all materials and decide what saints you want to transform your scarecrows into.
- Dress your scarecrow in old All Saints Day costumes or create a new costume using scraps of fabric or tshirts. You can dress the scarecrow right over the clothes they are wearing if you bought the scarecrow at a store.
- Secure the costume with pins and/or rubberbands.
- Display and enjoy!
*Be sure to protect your scarecrows from heavy wind or rain if needed!
DIY Catholic Halloween Lawn Signs
These are a little more involved, so I gave them their own post.
You can make them say whatever you want such as “Memento Mori,” “Happy All Hallows Eve,” or “[Insert favorite Saint], pray for us!”
This sign literally cost me zero dollars. I used wood scraps that my amazing St. Joseph husband didn’t need along with paint and nails that we already had.
Catholic Pumpkins
These are so fun, and you can find tutorials and templates around the internet.
I love this Rosary tutorial from Catholic Icing. It was super easy and came out so pretty! I think the drill bits I used were a little too big, but you could still tell it was a Rosary!
We also made these melted crayon Saint-O-Lanterns one year. We did one exactly like hers, and painted “Memento Mori” on another one in spooky letters. It was messy, so you’ll want to do it outside on lots of newspaper.

These pumpkins definitely need heavy (and maybe even complete) adult involvement! Use your judgement, and do not allow children to wield knives, melted crayons, or heat guns!
