Overview of September Feast Days and Fasts

September is dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Mary

Each month, the Catholic Church has a special devotion, or, dedication. September is dedicated to the 7 Sorrows of Mary. You may want to pray a Seven Sorrows Chaplet this month. Read more about the 7 Sorrows Devotion and how to pray the chaplet here.

Here are the feasts and fasts for this month. You may want to put the ones that you would like to observe in your planner! Also, be sure to note any family birthdays, Baptismal anniversaries, and any other special Feast Days your family may like to celebrate this month.

September 8th – The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Check out this post for ways to honor Mary in your homeschool)

September 12th – St. John Chrysostom

September 14th – Exaltation of the Holy Cross

September 15th – Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows

September 17th – Feast of St. Hildegard

September 17, 19, and 20 – Ember Days

September 21 – Feast of St. Matthew, Apostle

September 21 – Start Novena to St. Michael (ends on Michaelmas)

September 22 – Start Novena to St. Therese

September 23 – Feast of Padre Pio

September 29 – Michaelmas
